Do you think Las Vegas, NV is more of a Sin City than any other popular city in the world?
sunshineintherain asked:
I live in Vegas and have met people from every where. The general consensus is that Vegas is the place to go if you want to be bad. But, living here (since I was 12 years old) just seems like a regular city with bad traffic, crime and politics. I watch TV and see how it is shown. I even go to the clubs featured on the travel shows. I definitely understand the allure, but, I’ve also partied in New York, San Francisco, Miami and Mexico. I loved every place I went to. Las Vegas just seems to hold that extra fantasy and I was wondering if you could tell me exactly what it is.

They probably call Las Vegas, Sin City because it entices.

No, I think it is just marketed as such to attract more tourists. It is just about the almighty dollar. New Orleans was once a sin city of sorts, not sure since the hurricane hit. (French Quarters) and San Francisco, Miami, Mexico would also come to mind for me. God bless

Wondering what it is? Simple .. it is marketing. Aside from that .. the legal prostitution.. aside from that … it is were the rat pack was and some major organized crime lore… aside from that .. it is the marketing.
You said the world… there are many places that are in a lawless state. I would consider those places to be ’sin city’ or even the lawful state of Amsterdam, where hookers and many forms of drugs are legal and not uncommon to see people getting ‘jiggy’ with it on the sidewalks.

Amsterdam and Hamburg blow it away (no pun intended), and I’d wager Bangkok, Bucharest and Kailingrad probably do, too. Tijuana is tamer than it used to be, but it’s not out of the running, either. Some might add Rio; I don’t know enough about it.
I’m sure there are plenty of other contenders.
Vegas’ sin is just more market-friendly; almost Disnified.
