The Tennessee Department of Transportation has announced five weekend closures that will happen this summer to repair bridges along Interstate 40 in downtown Nashville.

“There are two major bridges here in downtown Nashville that will undergo maintenance repairs in the coming weeks,” said TDOT spokesperson Kathryn Schulte. “With two interstates out of use, that means more traffic.”

Once again the Music City is preparing for weekend lane closures and shutdowns.

The first area is the Interstate 40/65 south loop where a truck crashed into the overpass back in April.

Crews will need to close the I-65 northbound ramp to I-40 westbound for two weekends.

“There won’t be a total closure of the interstate, but it is going to cause some congestion and you do have to keep it in mind if you’re traveling,” said Schulte.

That closure will happen the weekends of June 22 and July 13.

The second area affected is the Interstate 40 bridge over Second and Fourth Avenue and Lafayette Street.

Interstate 40 will be closed from Interstate 65 near the Adventure Science Center to I-24 at the Silliman Evans Bridge.

Those closures will happen over the course of three weekends – July 27, Aug. 3 and Aug. 10.

“It’s really challenging to schedule this kind of work in Nashville, especially during the summer, because there’s always something going on,” said Schulte.
